Key Takeaways
Generated from the text of customer reviews
Justworks is an integrated HR and payroll software used by startups, small teams, and companies scaling across states or hiring internationally. While some reviewers noted weaker financial reporting tools, many highlighted how straightforward the platform is to navigate and how quickly its support team responds to questions. Justworks has recently developed an MCP integration with tools like Claude and ChatGPT, enabling administrators to ask simple language questions and receive real-time insights.
Our Verdict
Justworks is a reliable choice for startups and small to mid-sized businesses hiring across states, since its PEO model gives small teams access to competitive group benefits and built-in compliance support. Some users find the pricing reasonable; others say it runs high for smaller teams. We recommend it for growing businesses needing centralized HR, not large enterprises.

What Is Justworks?
Justworks is an integrated HR and payroll platform that also offers PEO and EOR services covering payroll processing employee benefits and labor law compliance on a single platform. Its PEO plan shares employer responsibilities through a co-employment model for multi-state benefits access and compliance, while its EOR service lets businesses hire international employees without setting up a legal entity abroad.
What Is Justworks Best For?
A standout aspect of Justworks is its benefits administration support. Businesses can compare and manage health plans, enroll new hires, process qualifying life events, and offer additional benefits such as 401(k), mental health, fertility, and wellness services. This makes Justworks particularly useful for employers that want to provide a broader benefits package without managing multiple providers separately.
How Much Does Justworks Cost?
Justworks pricing starts at $8/month/employee plus a $50/month base fee for the ‘Payroll’ plan. Businesses looking to hire internationally can also add the Employer of Record (EOR) package, priced separately at $599/month/employee. Additional pricing plans include:
- PEO Basic – $79/month per employee (No base fee)
- PEO Plus – $124/month per employee (No base fee)
Add-ons:
- Justworks Time Tracking: $8/month/employee
- International Contractors: $39/month/paid contractor
- Employer of Record (EOR): $599/month/employee
- Justworks Payroll + Health Insurance: $8/month/benefits-eligible employee
- Dedicated HR Consulting: $30/month/employee
- US-Based Contractors: $8/month per paid contractor
- Health Insurance Reimbursements (ICHRA): $25/month/enrolled employee
Some users noted that Justworks is cost-effective compared to other options. Others highlight that the platform can be costly for smaller teams that only need basic payroll rather than full PEO benefits.

Justworks Use Cases
Based on our analysis of Justworks features and user feedback, the following scenarios would be suitable for the use of justworks.
Startups Providing Competitive Benefits Without An HR Department
Startup companies cannot always access affordable group health insurance because the insurers need a minimum number of people. The Justworks PEO acts as an HR administrator by combining customers for coverage starting from just two people and taking care of the enrollment process for dental, vision, 401(k), and HSA/FSA plans.
Managing Payroll And Tax Compliance Across Multiple States
Companies having employees from various states need to comply with the different tax liabilities, which will become even more difficult as the number of states increases. Justworks has solved this problem by providing the employers with a single place to manage the entire workforce from multiple states. This is reflected in unified payroll processing and direct deposits across all states, along with full tax withholding, reporting, and filing for forms like 940s, 941s, W-2s, and 1099s.
Companies Hiring Employees In Other Countries
Businesses that want to hire talent abroad are often blocked by the cost and complexity of setting up a legal entity in each new country. Justworks solves this by allowing organizations to hire from anywhere without having to invest their time and money into setting up another company in that location. They manage all contractors and employees regardless of their country of residence through one platform.
Is Justworks Right For You?
If you're a startup or small business that needs group-rate health benefits and multi-state payroll compliance without dedicated HR staff, Justworks may serve as an effective fit. The software also protects sensitive data with encryption at rest and encrypted external network communication, data loss prevention technology, regular penetration testing, and a bug bounty program.

“friendly and organized tool”
Pros
Honestly what I like most about it is how user friendly and organized everything is. It makes dealing with payroll, benefits and HR stuff feel super easy instead of totally overwhelming. The design is clean and just makes sense so I can actually find what I need without clicking through a million menus. I also really appreciate how clear the benefits and payroll details are, it builds a lot of trust. Overall it just simplifies all the complicated HR tasks and saves me a ton of time which is huge for our growing team.
Cons
Sometimes it can feel a little less flexible if you need something really specific or customized. For some changes I have to reach out to support instead of just tweaking things myself which can slow me down a bit. The pricing is might little high if you are a smaller team especially if you are not using every single feature. They are not dealbreakers for me but definitely worth keeping in mind.

“interactive and reliable platform”
Pros
The interface is super user-friendly. It's just a clean, interactive platform that's easy for both me as an admin and for our employees to use. Plus their support team is great.
Cons
It probably lacks some of the advanced features bigger, multinational companies would need but for managing smaller teams, it's great. Also the integrations are a bit limited, there are not as many third-party options compared to some of the bigger HR platforms out there.
