Key Takeaways

Day Off is a leave and PTO tracking platform used by HR managers, team leads, and small business owners. Reviewers say setup is quick and the shared calendar makes scheduling easy. Hourly leave requests, however, require submitting each day separately, which some users find time-consuming. Day Off recently expanded its time-tracking capabilities with punch-in/out, attendance, overtime, schedules, and task tracking alongside PTO management.

Our Verdict

The software offers value for small to mid-sized teams that want leave tracking without a adopting a boarder HR suite. It fits organizations that are still handling time off through spreadsheets or email and need something more organized. Pricing is accessible for most small teams. Overall, we recommend it for businesses that want a clean, easy-to-use leave tracker without a lengthy setup.

Day Off Features

Time Tracker

The Time Tracker page has a one-click timer that runs against a selected project and task. Each session lands in a daily history log with exact start and end times, total duration, and a billable flag. Entries are editable after the fact if a timer was left running or stopped early.

Work Schedule

Four schedule types cover fixed days, fixed hours, flexible hours, and rotating shifts. Each is assigned per employee and connects to their leave tracking. Split shifts within a single day are also supported for teams that work across separate periods.

Attendance Review

Daily attendance data compares each employee's scheduled hours against actual clock-in and clock-out times. Late arrivals, early departures, breaks, net hours, and overtime are all visible in one table. Results are filterable by name, team, or location and can be exported to Excel or printed.

Approval Workflow

Leave requests appear as cards showing the employee name, leave type, date, and status. Multiple approvers can be assigned per employee, and each approves or rejects from the same screen. An override option covers editing, force-approving, or deleting a request from the details view.

“friendly to use, but pto is tricky”

Pros

It's very simple to use and I can have different supervisors approve, track or deny requests. I also love that it offers both an app and a website.

Cons

Honestly, the PTO tracking is confusing because our accumulation system is unique, but the sick time tracking is absolutely spot on.

“A lifesaver without an HR team”

Pros

Because my company doesn't have a dedicated HR department, I've found this product incredibly helpful for organizing and keeping track of everyone's days off.

Cons

I did notice that some customization features I wanted weren't available.

“Cost-effective but holiday complexities”

Pros

I find it very cost-effective and I really appreciate the clean, user-friendly interface.

Cons

For me this is really important. I need the software to let us import country-based holiday calendars that only apply to that country's employees, so one team's holidays don't change someone else's. For example, our US staff follow different holidays than the Philippines team. It would be fantastic to assign countries separately and to import, add or remove holiday sets per country. On the Employee Overview screen it currently shows something like 19/24 in the DAYS column, which becomes confusing when you also have bereavement and PTO. The totals are lumped together and bereavement should be treated separately since it's only for immediate family deaths. Allowing customization of visible columns would help a lot.
